What is it?
Q2™ is a revolutionary online research platform that combines the best aspects of qualitative and quantitative research. And now, Q2 version 2.0 brings you the next generation of online research. This latest version includes all the features of the first generation platform, allowing you to: interact in real-time with small or large groups, ask closed- or open-ended questions, engage participants in free-form discussions, and test virtually any kind of message media. Enhancements in the new version 2.0 include:

  • Randomized display of media to eliminate order bias
  • One-on-one follow-up probing to provide even better in-depth feedback
  • Superior real-time reporting making it easier and faster for clients to make strategic interpretations of the data
  • One-click participant profiling to quickly understand who is saying what and why
  • Innovative system speed improvements to produce more feedback in the same amount of time
How does it work?
We start by working with you to develop the target population and the appropriate number of participants for the Q2 group. A moderator's guide is created and programmed. This guide can include a variety of structured and unstructured question types.

At a specific day and time, the session is launched. Q2's proprietary technology is designed for maximum compatibility and ease-of-use. Using any recent browser version, participants simply log in and go. Sessions can be 1-1.5 hours in duration and generally includes approximately 30 participants. The moderator can easily create new questions or new free-form discussions on-the-fly. Clients log in to a Q2 session as observers, analyzing responses and viewing discussions as they take place.

Full session reports are immediately available at the completion of the session. Toplines, crosstabular datatables, sorted verbatims reports, instant messaging chat transcripts, and moment-to-moment rating reports ... all of these are provided so you can make fast, insightful decisions.

Why is it superior?
Q2 solves many of the flaws inherent in traditional focus group research ...

  • Q2 is fast ... An entire Q2 study can be designed, launched, and analyzed in 48 hours. Q2 participants can be recruited the day of the session if necessary, and complete session reports - including discussion chat transcripts - are available immediately following the session.

  • Q2 has no geographical limitations ... Why conduct three 10-person focus groups in different cities for a national product roll-out? Instead, you could launch a Q2 study in a single evening with 30 participants drawn from a representative national panel.

  • Q2 uses high quality sample sources to recruit participants ... Q2 draws from a 3.5+ million national panel that is targetable on any number of respondent characteristics.

  • Q2 produces more reliable and unbiased results ... Q2 sessions are generally 2x to 4x larger than traditional focus groups, providing good base sizes for quantitative questions. Further, Q2 solves the "dominant personality" problem inherent in traditional groups while still allowing participant interaction within these larger groups.

  • Q2 is a highly efficient way to get participant feedback ... Studies have shown that each participant speaks on average for only 12 minutes during a typical focus group session. Q2 sessions enable direct, unmediated feedback between the moderator and participants. This yields more response data in a shorter period of time.

  • Q2 saves time and money ... Q2 eliminates travel expense and time on the road.

  • Q2 elicits opinions from the comfort of the participant's own home ... This is a much more natural, pleasant experience for participants. And it produces higher quality data at a lower per respondent cost.

  • Q2 is preferable to video streaming traditional focus groups ... Streaming video only solves one problem associated with focus groups - reducing travel costs to clients. By contrast, Q2 doesn't just reduce travel costs - it eliminates them for both the client and the researcher. At the same time, Q2 addresses a variety of other problems with the focus group method, including speed, sample limitations, data quality, and data inefficiency.

What's new in v2.0

  • Question/media randomization ... One of the most serious problems in traditional qualitative research design is the effect of order bias. Q2 solves this problem. This new Q2 functionality includes randomized presentation of any media - including video, audio, print/images.

  • More feedback in less time ... The combination of a new question-asking technology and numerous system speed improvements mean that you can include 20% more material in a given Q2 session. In the first generation of the platform, a typical 90 minute Q2 was equivalent to a two hour traditional focus group. Now, this same Q2 session can cover as much ground as a two-and-a-half hour focus group.

  • Enhanced real-time reporting ... During-session reporting has been enhanced to provide a greater depth of information. A new summary statistics area clearly displays aggregated answer choice results and other information useful for real-time comparisons. Further, the entire reporting interface has been simplified and streamlined. Click here for an illustration.

  • Participant profiling ... Have you ever wanted to know essential demographic or attitudinal information about a participant during a focus group? Would it help you better interpret comments about, for instance, a political candidate if you knew each participant's income, political ideology, and church attendance? With the click of a button, Q2 now provides you with this intelligence in real-time so you can better understand the context behind the feedback. Click here to see how this works.

  • One-on-one probing ... The moderator and client observers may now initiate one-on-one chat discussions with participants following any open-end question. This represents a powerful new tool to explore the meaning behind a participant's initial responses. Click here to see how this works.

  • And many more improvements ... such as better video quality, more control over group demographic composition, more flexible display of media (full screen if needed), cleaner and more intuitive client observer control panel, full participant profiling available in session reports, and much more!
